What Is the IMAT?
The International Medical Admissions Test (IMAT) is an English-language entrance examination used for admission to participating English-taught Medicine & Surgery programmes at Italian public universities. It tests scientific knowledge alongside logical reasoning, problem solving and reading-related skills, in a single 100-minute sitting.
The exam is time-limited, so effective preparation requires both subject mastery and exam strategy — not one or the other. Not every Italian Medicine programme uses the IMAT, so confirming your target university's admission route is an important early step.

IMAT Test Centres
The IMAT is sat simultaneously worldwide on the same day each September. Candidates choose a test centre when registering — Italian residents sit at their chosen university, while candidates abroad sit at designated Italian Embassies, Consulates, or cultural institutes.
Centre availability varies each year and is confirmed through the official Universitaly portal at the time of registration. Always verify your nearest centre before applying.
